A Teacher's Work Never Ends | By Jayme Lynch, Elementary Education Representative
Teachers are lifelong learners and we look for ways to improve our teaching strategies because everything in education is continually changing and growing. It is critical that teachers are up to date with current innovative strategies. So many educators spend their summers attending workshops, conferences, trainings, symposiums, and numerous other learning opportunities. Over the summer, we learn new ideas, or remember old ones that we can share with our colleagues and can use to enrich our classrooms. If we collaborate together, our students will benefit greatly. The more ideas we bring into our classrooms to assist us in teaching our students, the more quickly and easily they will learn their academics and/or new language. Achievement gaps will be eliminated, academics will improve, languages will be learned at a faster speed, and our students will be prepared for their next step in education. We are dedicated to our students and their futures. We read, listen, research, prepare, discuss, and even dream about new ways to improve our teaching skills. As educators we take pride in our abilities to teach and develop young minds. We, as ESL teachers, have the amazing opportunity to help students learn a new language. It’s such an exciting process to see this unfold before our eyes. Students enter our classrooms with little or no English language and over time they blossom and polish their newly acquired language. This excitement should encourage us to continue to educate ourselves. When we better ourselves, we better our students simultaneously. As teachers/educators, we need to be eager and willing to continue furthering our education, so we can best serve our students’ needs in order for our students to continue to succeed and grow. |
