About TexTESOL V

TexTESOL V was founded in February 1979 at the University of North Texas in Denton. During the fall of that same year, the affiliate held its first conference. As was the case with many affiliates during these early years of TexTESOL, many efforts were centered on teaching adults English either abroad or in the United States. In late 1980’s, TexTESOL V responded to the need from the local independent school districts and participated more inclusively with the language professionals working in K-12 educational settings. Their involvement helped the affiliate become more comprehensive in terms of membership and representation.

In recent years we have developed an active partnership with the Yakutsk affiliate in northeast Russia. We have founded our own research-oriented publication, TexELT, and continue to review, edit, and publish high quality articles. Finally, our affiliate awards several $1000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have, at some time in their academic career, studied in an ESL classroom. We are proud of our accomplishments and the service we provide for our membership. We hope as an organization to continue to progress and remain strongly connected to our ESL communities.
