Overview of TexTESOL V

Founded in February 1979 at the University of North Texas in Denton, TexTESOL V has been a cornerstone for TESOL/ESL professionals in Northern Texas for over four decades. The affiliate hosted its inaugural conference in the fall of 1979, initially focusing on teaching English to adults both domestically and internationally, in line with the priorities of many TexTESOL affiliates at the time. In the late 1980s, TexTESOL V expanded its scope to address the needs of local independent school districts, fostering greater collaboration with language professionals in K-12 educational settings. This shift broadened the affiliate’s membership and enhanced its representation across diverse educational contexts.

In recent years, TexTESOL V has forged a dynamic partnership with the Yakutsk affiliate in northeast Russia, promoting cross-cultural collaboration. The affiliate has also established TexELT, a research-oriented publication dedicated to reviewing, editing, and publishing high-quality articles in the field of English language teaching. Additionally, TexTESOL V proudly awards multiple $1,000 scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors who have participated in ESL programs during their academic careers.

TexTESOL V remains committed to its mission of advancing English language learning and supporting its vibrant community of professionals. The affiliate looks forward to continued growth and meaningful engagement with ESL communities worldwide.
